At its January meeting, the board of the Folk Music Association decided that, due to the financial situation, the spring tours are on hold.

Tour application info

Tours cover a maximum of 5 concerts.
Exact tour dates are agreed when the touring bands are selected for each season.
Bands must be of high quality and prepared for the challenges a tour brings.
It is easier to arrange performances for small acoustic groups of 1-4 people and for versatile bands. A large band may also bring its own funding. State in your application if the band wants to combine its own funding with the tour. For financial reasons, only one larger band (5 people) without its own funding can be selected for the autumn and spring tours.
At least half of the members of a touring band must be Finnish or live permanently in Finland.
Because the number of applicants has stayed consistently high, bands that have already toured have a waiting period of about five years before they can be selected again, unless the band has changed radically. Such changes include, for example, a complete change of line-up or some other major development that makes a tour topical.
Remember to state in your application any dates that absolutely do NOT suit the band! If conflicts come up for the free dates given in the application after it has been submitted, we would appreciate it if you let us know immediately to keep the selection and scheduling work running smoothly.
Applications received after the deadline are not considered.
In 2026, tour concerts pay 196.20 euros per musician (180 + 9% holiday compensation) plus per diems, travel and accommodation (shared twin room).
On the selection process: The touring bands are chosen by the organizers of the clubs in the tour organization. Each organizer picks its top 4 from the applicant list using its own selection process and presents them at the final selection meeting, where the final four touring bands are chosen based on discussions between the club representatives. The selection process aims, each season, for a range of bands that respects all the tour organizers and their wishes, and for the best possible overall balance between the touring bands.
On sound: The venues on the Folk Music Association's tours are mostly acoustic or equipped with a small or medium-sized PA. Tour gigs are played with the equipment available at each venue, so performers applying for the tours should take this into account when drawing up their stage plot / technical rider for the tour.

Book a touring band for your town!

The subsidised tour programme is a great way to get top musicians to perform at a very reasonable price. You cover the venue and catering costs, the PA if the venue or the band requires one, Teosto fees and marketing. Suomen Kansanmusiikkiliitto gets the performers to the venue and arranges their accommodation, and you are invoiced only for the deductible share of the performance fees.
